The Rainforest Retreat at Mojo Plantation is a unique project that combines eco-tourism with sustainable agriculture and environmental education.
Our internationally renowned eco-lodge is located on a certified organic farm in the tropical montane rainforests of the Western Ghats in Kodagu (Coorg) district, Karnataka. Surrounded by rolling hills and densely forested valleys, this region is one of the major biodiversity hotspots of the world.
Over the past 31 years, we have grown into a platform to share ideas, build community, and raise awareness about ecological farming practices and the urgent need to protect our fragile habitats.
The Rainforest Retreat was one of the first eco-lodges of its kind in this region. Since the beginning, it has attracted a vibrant mix of visitors from different backgrounds – scientists, artists, farmers, students, writers, filmmakers, drop-outs, volunteers, urban and rural, young and old – all connected by a deep love and respect for nature.
We are no longer running the guesthouse for regular short-term bookings. Instead, we are focusing more on education, research, and community.
From now, the Rainforest Retreat will be a venue for long-term rentals, workshops, conferences, study programmes, and residencies.
Our rich biodiversity, excellent trekking and birding opportunities, and salubrious environment filled with clear streams and forest sounds makes it the ideal space for these activities.
Workshops
Facilitators who are interested in hosting a workshop on any subject (for example: writing, art, yoga, mediation, film, photography, biology, ecology, or anything else, academic or practical) can reach out to us and use the place as a venue. We will provide accommodation, food, and logistical support. We also collaborate with experts to host our own workshops in Writing, Tree Identification and other topics which will be advertised periodically on our pages.
Organisations and companies
have used this space to host internal meetings, retreats and team-building activities.
Long term rentals
Two of our cottages have been refurbished as independent units with attached kitchens for rentals on a weekly or monthly basis.
Student groups
We have been running educational programmes for the past 25 years for schools, universities, and independent groups. The itinerary is tailored to each programme’s needs and objectives.
Residencies
We offer our cottages to writers, artists, and other creatives to work on their manuscripts or independent projects.
Research
Alongside ongoing studies in ecology and other areas, we would like to use this space as a platform to facilitate conversations between people from different disciplinary backgrounds. This includes inviting scholars from the social sciences, environmental humanities and conservation biology to discuss various approaches and methods while being immersed in a special ecosystem that influences the conversation. Anyone interested in engaging with this should get in touch with us.
We are open to collaboration in other areas, but our focus will now be on long term stays or group activities, instead of tourism. Please email us for pricing.
Proceeds support WAPRED, an environmental NGO dedicated to nature by promoting organic farming and biodiversity conservation.
